National Sleep Awareness Week, March 2nd -9th, celebrates the health benefits of sleep, and provides education and awareness to promote the importance of sleep.
The National Sleep Foundation releases their “Sleep in America” poll on Monday, March 3rd. A previous poll reported that 6 in 10 health care professionals do not feel that they have enough time to have a discussion with their patients about sleep during regular office visits.
Many of my patients have also told me that their primary care physician rarely, if ever, asks them about their sleep.
I truly feel it is my responsibility to help educate as many people as possible about the health benefits of sleep. I recently produced a sleep diary with a section on some of these benefits. They include:
- Strengthening your mind and heart
- Increasing your creativity and attention span
- Improving your quality of life and most importantly living a longer one
The sleep diary is free to patients at the delivery of their dental sleep retainer. To those who already have a retainer, you can get one at your follow-up appointment. If you do not have a follow-up appointment, please call our office today to schedule one.
Please help me spread the word about the importance of sleep to your friends and family, as well as initiate a conversation with your physician at your next appointment.
