The Herbst Sleep Appliance was one of the earliest designs used to control snoring and sleep apnea.
The appliance gets its name from the telescoping bars located on each side of the device.
These bars have been used in orthodontics for years to “move the lower jaw forward”—which is exactly what needs to happen in order to open the airway in your throat.
This design is especially suitable for people that grind their teeth. The “bars” are made of stainless steel, so they can take a lot of stress while making them a snap to clean after use.
The bars are adjustable so minor improvements can be made to them to improve the performance. The Herbst is good for both obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.
