What exactly is happiness? In The Book of Joy, the Dalai Lama stated “I have tried to make people aware that the ultimate source of happiness is simply, a healthy body and a warm heart.”

If you have untreated sleep apnea, you do not have a healthy body. You may experience the symptoms of excessive daytime sleepiness, fatigue, and lack of energy, making it very difficult to be mindful, experience a true present, be creative, connect with others to have meaningful and nurturing relationships, and care for yourself and others.

While it is true that there are some serious medical consequences for not treating your sleep apnea, I have found, that for many of my patients, it’s the lack of quality of life that brings them to seek treatment.
